HOW TO RUN THE ECAL PRETRIGGER
Main processes
The following process has to be started from hb-cr09
machine under hbshift username and ~/sa_ECALPT/
directory:

pte_moni : This is
the pretrigger INITIALIZATION process. It loads fed LUTs pretrigger
LUTs and starts the pretrigger monitor process pt_moni under hb-vme42 machine.
Troubleshooting
Sometimes in case of troubles a reset of the system is needed:

How to Install pretrigger boards
In this section a manual for MIDDLE ECAL pretrigger boards installation
will be given.
The STATIC TESTS can be performed at any
moment without interfering with any DAQ activity.
The DINAMIC TESTS need NO DAQ ACTIVITY
(please contact shift crew and ask for such a condition).
STATIC TESTS

Take one pretrigger board and check jumper and VME address configuration.
A checklist of jumper configuration will be added soon to this document.
Anyway the pretrigger boards are delivered already configured for installation

Switch the PRETRIGGER 7 crate OFF
-
Insert the board in slot 5 on PRETRIGGER 7 crate (the one with hb-vme43
CPU)
-
Connect the downmost lemo connector on the board frontpanel with the lemo
cable coming from the crate backplane. This cable is necessary to feed
a fast clock signal (40 MHz) to the transmission card.

Do not insert the patch panel cables on the board input connector
-
Switch the PRETRIGGER 7 crate ON
-
Check that the uppermost red LED on the board frontpanel is first ON and
than OFF. This indicates the normal succesfull completion of the FPGA loading
-
On the hb-vme43 CPU login as hb-ecal
and go into the pro/pt directory
-
Start the pt program giving the most significant
byte (2 digits) of the board VME address
-
Execute the T test from the main menu in the
long version (10 min). No error have to be detected during the test
-
Execute the L test from the main menu in the
long version (10 min). No error have to be detected during the test
-
Execute again the T test from the main menu
in the short version . No error have to be detected during the test
-
execute the F test from the main menu. No
error have to be detected during the test
If all these steps are succesfull the board is OK and ready to be installed
in the setup for the DINAMIC TESTS (see
below).
If errors appears at any point try once more
the whole procedure up to the step in which the errors have been detected.
If the errors are still there take note shortly
of the detected error and pass to test another board.
