ASD8 Power Distribution Card

1 Introduction

The ASD8 power distribution card function is power supply and threshold control for the ASD-8 board. It communicates with a VME Host through CAN Bus Interface. This paper give description of definition of components such as groups, channels, interface and jumpers which are shown in Fig.1.

2 Connection

The Connection C1 builds connection with one channel of the test pulse distribution card (showed in part 8). C2 is the CAN Bus connection. C3 connects to +/- 3.5V Power Supply.

3. ID Setting

Jumper J7 ~J10 are used to set the ID of the card. The ID is defined as a four bits binary number. J10 denotes the highest digit and J7 is the lowest one. If the jumper connect right two pins together like J10 in fig.1, the corresponding digit of ID is "1". Otherwise, when it is like J8, the digit of ID is "0". In this way, the ID in Fig. 1 is "1010", which means "ID 10" in decimal.

4. Threshold Selection

There are two the threshold on the card. The Jumper J1 ~J6 are used to select one these two to the corresponding group. When the jumper is set to upper position, like J1 in Fig.1, threshold 1 is chosen. When it is set to low position, like J6 in Fig. 1, we select the threshold 2. The threshold can be measured with multimeter from the pin P1 of each channel.

5. The potentiometer

The potentiometer of each group is used to adjust the high of output pulse. When it is adjusted to anti-clockwise direction, the height of the pulse is decreased. Otherwise, it is increased. To set the height of pulse, adjust the potentionmeter, set the voltage between ponit 1 and the ground to the given value when there is no asd8 card connected to the board.(Fig 4.)

6. Jumper J11 and J12

J11 and J12 decide the method of threshold control. When J11 is connected, the threshold is controlled by VME host with CAN Bus. If J12 is joined, it will be controlled by external supply.

7. Menu of the control program "distest"

Run "distest" on VME host. Use Command " id #" to select corresponding card. Where "#" is the ID number of the card, varying from 1 to 16. The Command " adc" is used to read the result of ADC.

To set both thresholds to the same value, enter " th <ENTER>" , then enter the value of the thresholds. Use "th 1" to set the first threshold and "th 2" for the second one.

To switch on the test pulse output of all groups, enter "on". To switch off all, enter "off ". Use "on #" or "off # " to switch a singe pulse group. Where "#" is the No. of the group, varying from a to f (1 to 6). The definition of the group and ID is described in Part 1.

8. The Test Pulse Distribution Card.

As showed in Fig. 2, the pulse distribution card has 17 output channels. It offers +5v power supply and test pulse to the power distribution boards.
The input of this card is from the FCS daughter. One should connect them as showed in Fig.2.
