Some Info Concerning New Configuration of hb-vme/hb-con Online Cluster ====================================================================== Yesterday and this morning we have reconfigured and upgraded the server for the hb-vme, hb-con online cluster: * old servers: hb-linux, hb-lynx, hb-data1 are now longer in operation as servers, they are still accessible under - hbolinux - hbolynx - hbodisk1 to copy e.g. some of your old data files These servers will be shutdown and reconfigured during february, they are not inside the cluster - please be careful - these are no longer your actual files. The name of the new server is hblynxs. A second server hbols1 deals a login, data disk server and to run your processes. The new servers are based on debian slink system and are using glibc 2.07. Be careful, your old images are running on these machines, but new compiled and linked images are not running on the old linux system. Note that the glibc 2.07 is incompatible glibc 2.1, which is used in the newer SUSE and redhat systems. Not all imagines from such machines may run on these servers and vice versa. LynxOs ------- All home directories of all users are copied to the new machines, i.e. you should see the same files if login to a VME machine. Maybe you should reboot your VME-CPUs ! Passwords --------- they are now identical on the Linux and LynxOs side, taken from old hb-linux cluster. You have to change your password on the server hblynxs. The passwords are updated every 5 min on the Lynx and Linux clusters Disks ----- On the disks we have now installed a quota system: you may see on the server your quota with: quota !! there is just one quota for all your home dirs, i.e. on linux and lynxOs - they are now located on the same disk and added together !! The LynxOs home dirs can be seen from all linux machines under: /home/Lynx/C604(b)/Home/ No data from data disks are copied to the new machines. On the VME-CPU's two disks /data1 and /data2 are mounted. on both new servers there is a scratch disk with a tmp directory, where everybody can create a directory. Data on the scratch disks might get lost without any notice. Several old junk was cleaned up, eg. complicated exports and crossmounts removed. Login ----- Please don't use the hblynxs for interactive login, thats the primary server which doesn't see all data disks. Please use the powerful hbols1 and the other linux clients for your login. VME --- - driver, vmelib and header files are located on /usr/mizzi - the vme CPUs are time synchronized to the hblynxs Please check whether everything is working propoerly and report asap problems. Myself and Thomas Kihm are for some time in the WestHall this afternoon (room 301 and control room) Best Regards Klaus
